Northwest of Nairobi, in the Great Rift Valley, lies the town of Gilgil. With a population of around 20,00 people, the town is home to some military facilities, a few tourist sites, mines, farms, and some small industry. Unfortunately, there are also a large number of widowed women who have no means of support in the senior years.
Unlike the United States, Kenya does not have a system for supporting these women in abject poverty. They live in mud houses with dirt floors and no electricity. Water is often miles away, and the only support they get is from the local churches. Prior to 2025, Mile 2 Ministries has been building new homes (metal siding, concrete floors, real doors and real windows, and more) as we have been able.
The Naomi Project started with an idea, to buy a small piece of land on which to build several of these homes. A quarter acre would cost us about $20,000. A church pastor in Gilgil with whom we have worked for many years told us that the church owned over 60 acres and would sell us a full acre for the same $20,000! A few weeks later, a church in The Woodlands, Texas, informed us that they were donating $20,000 to purchase land in Kenya! Two massive blessings in as many weeks. A third blessing came when someone came along and offered us the funds to build the first house on our new land. God is definitely moving on this endeavor.
One of these homes in Kenya costs approximately $5,000. Located very close to Kingdom Seekers church in Gilgil, our land has access to water and limited electricity. The homes will also be much closer to the feeding program that brings them food each week, and they will all be centrally located, making access and distribution much easier.
Some costs related to The Naomi Project:
One house is $5,000
Food for one person for one year is $600 ($50 per month)
Maintenance and upkeep of the land runs about $1,000 per year
